It simply is a place where you write down everything you eat in a day and keep records from day to day and week to week. Evidence shows that people who do this lose 50% more weight than people who do not. Make sure you write down everything you put into your mouth. Every bite, every free sample, every taste of your kids French fries at the fast food place. If you neglect to write down the bites, licks and tastes it has been proven to cost you anywhere from 500 to 1000 calories a week and that adds up over a month to pounds gained or not lost.
Join a Support Group
The encouragement and support you can get from a weight loss group (like Weight Watchers for example) is very helpful in long-term weight loss and control. Many hospitals run their own groups and there are many commercial programs available also. You will learn why you overeat (stress, boredom, anger, depression, all of these), how to help control the triggers that make you over eat and you will receive diet tips from people who have gone this rout before you. You will also learn about portion control and healthy meal planning.
