Should I Count Calories Or Carbs While Dieting?
Should I count calories or carbs while dieting? Find out the secrets to losing weight and maintaining it, all without becoming a slave to your diet!
Your most useful weight loss tool is to just keep track of your calorie intake. Most people do not realize that just by watching your carb or fat grams, your weight loss is not guaranteed – far from it in fact. Just by decreasing how much fat/carbs you are consuming, it’s possible to stay the same weight, or even continue gaining in some cases.
Know your calories
Oddly enough, the average person has no idea how many calories they actually consume in one day. Keep track of your calorie intake for one week (there’s several tools online to help with this, if you aren’t sure how.) Write down everything you eat, and you may be surprised at how many calories you are consuming.
Cut your sugar
After knowing your average calorie intake, look for ways to trim them down. One of the most nutritionally unfulfilling sources of calories is unrefined sugar. Try to cut out as much out of your daily diet as possible. Switch to bottled water, instead of soda for instance.
Lower your portions
This does not mean starving yourself, by any means, but do you really need to get seconds of that spaghetti? We’ve all walked away from the dining room table feeling as if we just consumed half of the state’s supply of food (especially around the holidays), and that’s not how a meal is supposed to make you feel. You should feel satisfied, but energized when you finish a meal.
Reduce your stress
Most of those that diet make themselves crazy by constantly obsessing over what they are putting in their mouths. Eating a meal should be an enjoyable experience! There is a difference between being aware of your diet, and letting it run your life.
