What Is A Home Health Plan Of Care?

Home health care plan is defined as support services that are non medical in nature given at the home of the senior citizen.

The Home Health Care Plan

This kind of home heath care plan, just started in the last decade, allows the senior to stay in his home longer and avoid nursing homes, assisted living or other methods of elderly care. The home care plan allows seniors to remain in their home longer rather than enter an assisted living community, nursing home or other type of senior care. When the senior citizen only needs minor assistance with daily activities this type of home care plan would be the appropriate move. It is more cost effective for the senior who feels he still needs to live in his home.

The Real Numbers

7.6 million Americans receive home care with those stats provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. That number is much higher when you think about informal care that is given by a family member or friend of the family. I fall into that category when I assist my 86 year old father by bringing by prepared meals for him and his live in girlfriend. At times I also give him rides to the doctors office for checkups.

The Services Involved

Home care plan services involve taking care of household chores, like doing the dishes, taking out the garbage, vacuuming, bathing, dressing and fixing meals. The sort of activities that seniors do not do well as they advance in age. The service may extend to help with transportation, paying bills, making appointments, or just providing companionship.

Availability

These types of home care plan services are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Medicare and Medicaid will assist the senior in paying for the services.

Future Business

As 77 million baby boomers move towards retirement the more assistance they will need. This type of business will be even more viable in the future and will help with the unemployment rate as new entrepreneurs pick up on this monumental time to go into business for themselves and employ others.
