How Do I Find A Home Health Care Aid?
Does someone you know need in-home care? If you are looking for quality home health care here are some tips for finding and choosing a home health care aid.
Finding a good home care provider is like searching for a good physician. It is a process that takes a little time and research. There are some options available that make it easier to find a good caregiver quickly.
Where to look?
One way to locate care providers is to look in your phone book or newspaper. The listings should give the name and address of the Home Health Care Agencies in your area. A phone call will save gas by allowing the caller to ask a few questions before making an appointment. If this seems like a good option a caregiver will be assigned by the agency that is certified and trained in caring for seniors and persons with physical and mental limitations.
Alternatives:
An alternative to going through a care agency would be to place an ad in the local paper in the “help wanted” section. List the qualities and requirements needed for the job and leave a name and phone number for the applicants to call.
Referrals from hospitals and other agencies.
If the home care services are needed as a result of a surgical procedure the hospital may have references to agencies that they work with. Ask the Human Resources Department for a referral list.
Check with the community resources in your area. The local Area Agency on Aging may be able to find you a good home health care aid. If not familiar with this service check the listings in your phone book under “senior services” or “home care services”.
The home health care aid that you choose should be experienced and well-trained and be sensitive to the needs of older adults.
