Where Is the Best Place to Retire?
“Where is the best place to retire?” Baby boomers like you are asking themselves the same question – should you relocate or stay put in your current home?
Are You a Homebody or a Gadfly?
If your retirement dream is a little place where you sit on the porch in your rocking chair and gaze at a peaceful lake, then by all means buy that beautiful remote cabin and rock away. But if you also want to travel to foreign lands and make frequent visits to friends and family, invest in a condo in a resort area which will not drain your pocketbook or require lots of upkeep.
Where Is the Best Place to Retire – U.S. or Overseas?
While it’s fun to fantasize about a luxurious retirement villa in the Mediterranean, don’t forget to take a hard look at your physical health and your economic bottom line. If you are part of a couple and you both have always wanted to retire in a certain area, the decision is easy. Before you go, however, make sure that there is good access to medical care where you plan to move, especially if either of you have special heath concerns.
Do You Really Want to Downsize?
When couples mull the question of where is the best place to retire they often imagine themselves transported to a wonderful new home, surrounded by all of their favorite furniture and precious family heirlooms with a two or three car garage to store all the things they have accumulated over their lifetime that they don’t want to get rid of quite yet. Keep in mind that storage space in your new home is likely to be a fraction of what you are accustomed to, especially if you currently are living in a large suburban home.
