While some view retirement as a time of just doing those leisurely activities that they have always dreamed of without being hampered by the responsibility of a job, retirement is not quite that simple. There are things that one should be considered when approaching retirement; one of those things is, what expenses will I have after I retire.

It is very unwise when thinking about retirement not to ask the question, what expenses will I have after I retire. After all, even though there is no longer the responsibility of a job, there are still financial responsibilities for retirees. Hopefully, by the time an individual retires, some expenses such as a mortgage, college loans, travel expense to work, and similar expenses that a person faces in the early and the middle part of life are no longer present. However, those expenses are replaced by new expenses that go along with reaching retirement age.

One expense that retirees face is healthcare, sometimes people who are retirement age spend a lot of time at the doctors office and have multiple prescriptions that they have to take. While government healthcare programs for the elderly, like Medicare helps with some of these costs, many elderly purchase supplemental health insurance to help cover medical expenses. In addition to healthcare, another expense that is not too pleasant to talk about is purchasing life insurance or burial insurance. People do not want to leave their family with a financial burden upon their passing. These are just a few of the expenses that people face upon retirement, there are others to be considered; the important thing is that someone considers the cost of retirement and plans accordingly.
