How Do I Stretch My Retirement Dollar?

Find out how to stretch your retirement dollar, stick to a budget and be financially secure longer. Keep saving money, even when you are retired.

The best way to stretch a retirement dollar is to live on a stable budget. A retiree should budget monthly and annually for expenses. A savings account should be present for annual expenses that are more than a monthly budget can handle. Everything that is left at the end of a month should be set aside and not spent. To take the worry out of too little retirement money, additional sources of income should be created by investing small amounts.

Does Your Retirement Dollar Match Your Lifestyle?

Many people need to downgrade to make sure they can afford living expenses, while they are retired. If a retirement fund won’t provide for all of the necessities, going back to work or selling a home is an option. Making the dollar stretch, is as easy as being frugal and paying off all debt.

Budget Your Retirement Fund

When one goes into retirement, that isn’t a green light to stop saving money. Retirees should create a budget for their funds, and still set aside money for a rainy day. Needs should be covered, then wants and savings. If needs are not covered with 60 percent of the fund, then additional income may be required. Any debt should be taken care of, prior to retirement to keep bills as low as possible.

Reinvest Small Amounts

At the end of the month if there is any money left unused, it should be set aside for an investment. This investment can be in the stock market, savings accounts or even stocking up on bulk food. Investing small amounts of left over money, can bring unexpected money in return, and will help stretch a retirement dollar.
