This is because their social security and pension incomes do not cover their monthly expenses. Many seniors have expensive medications and other medical supplies that need to be paid for. Here are some tips on how to be retired and work at the same time.

Look for Jobs with Flexible Hours

The first tip is to look for jobs that have flexible hours. Many senior citizens have doctors’ appointments and cannot work long hours because of medical and health issues. Retail and customer service jobs are great jobs for senior citizens. They have many jobs that have flexible hours and are more likely to hire senior citizens.

Speak to a Housing Representative

The second tip is to make sure that getting a job does not violate any income requirements that you need to follow. Some seniors live in section eight elderly housing and have a specific monthly rent that is based off of their income. Getting a job can violate the terms of the rental agreement so you need to talk to a representative before getting a job. They will tell you if it is okay to be retired and work at the same time.

Become Computer Proficient

The third tip is to become proficient in computer software and programs. Many seniors who got out in the work force are going to have to use computers of some sort. Having at least some basic computer knowledge is a great addition to a resume for any job listing.

Make Sure You Have Reliable Transportation

The fourth tip is to secure a reliable form of transportation before applying to a job. Potential employers want to make sure that their employees can be on time every day and have a reliable way to get to work. Seniors can find rides in their area and there are buses and trains with reduced fares. Hopefully these tips will help you be retired and work at the same time.
