Drugs From Canada: Is it Cheap, Really?
Drugs from Canada are generally cheaper than American equivalents. This is heavily due to price controls and lower administrative costs for pharmaceutical companies outside of the United States. There are several concerns with drugs purchased outside of the United States for delivery into the country.
Safety Of Drugs From Canada
Pharmaceutical companies, lobbyists, and Congressional representatives have made the case that drugs purchased from outside the United States haven’t been through the rigorous testing that the Food and Drug Administration requires of all medicines sold and dispensed in the United States. Drugs could be contaminated with impurities, or prescriptions could be filled with improper quantities of medicine. However, of the two prevailing choices for outside drugs, Canada and Mexico, drugs from Canada are likely the safest and due to similar testing and controls, are likely just as safe as their American counterparts.
Cost To Purchase Drugs From Canada
Drugs purchased in Canada are cheaper than drugs purchased in the United States. Drugs purchased in Mexico are often even cheaper, but not considered anywhere near as safe. Drugs from Canada can be purchased for fractions of the cost of drugs purchased from America. This is because many Canadian drugs have price controls which limit the amounts that can be charged for a drug.
Legality of Purchasing Drugs From Canada
Unfortunately, although cheaper to buy in Canada, the legality of doing so and transporting prescription drugs into the United States is sketchy. If you fail to declare prescriptions purchased outside of the United States, you risk having them confiscated, meaning you will have lost the money you spent trying to purchase your prescription, and will then have to buy it in the United States for a further expense. In the end, drugs from Canada could turn out to be more expensive.
Conclusion
Regardless of the legality, people faced with often ridiculous health care costs are definitely looking north or south for alternatives to increasing health care costs. Purchasing drugs from Canada is an option.
