Who Qualifies for Medicare Benefits?
With rising costs of health care, people are looking for alternative ways to pay for their increasing need for such services. While some people are fortunate to be able to qualify and afford insurance, some are not and seek other ways to obtain health care coverage. Medicare is a government health insurance program that is affordable for those that qualify.

There are four coverage options offered through Medicare depending on how much coverage an applicant wants. Some tips to help those that are considering applying for Medicare are being aware of the requirements for the Medicare health insurance program. So, who qualifies for Medicare benefits? The main requirement for Medicare coverage is that the insured be at least 65 years or older; however, some younger individuals do qualify if they are disabled or have End-Stage Renal Disease.
Description of Medicare Requirements
Beyond the age requirement, the government does have a few more restrictions regarding who is eligible for Medicare benefit coverage. First, an applicant or his or her spouse must have been employed at least ten years in an employer that covers Medicare. Second, an applicant must be a citizen of the United States. Third, those considering applying for Medicare must be receiving Social Security benefits or Railroad Retirement.
For those applicants under the age of 65, there is still hope that the applicant may qualify for Medicare. If the applicant has been receiving disability benefits for Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Fund for at least 2 years, the applicants should qualify for Medicare.
On the other hand, if the applicant has a disability of End-Stage Renal Disease, the applicant could qualify for Medicare benefits upon Medicare reviewing the application and underwriting the policy.
Medicare premiums are usually deducted from the benefit check that the insured receives. This is affordable option to obtaining health insurance coverage.
