Where Do I Buy Medical Supplemental Insurance?

An individual has enrolled in Medicare and has realized he needs additional coverage. Where does he go to buy Medical Supplemental Insurance?

It does not take Medicare beneficiaries long to realize that Medicare does not cover all their expenses. Most decide to look into Medical Supplemental Insurance to help offset out of pocket costs left by services Medicare does not cover. The one question that most seniors ask is concerns the purchase of Medical Supplemental Insurance.

Can I Buy Medical Supplemental Insurance from Medicare?

It is important to note that Medicare and the Federal government do not sell Medical Supplemental Insurance. Medical Supplemental Insurance plans are sold by private insurance companies that have contracted with the Federal government to sell the Supplemental Insurance. All Medical Supplemental Insurance is sold by state approved private insurance companies.

Where Do I Buy Medical Supplemental Insurance?

Within each state there are private insurers that offer a variety of Medical Supplemental Insurance plans. The best place to start is with the company or representative that sold him his previous health care plans. If that company does not sell Medical Supplemental Insurance it can direct the person to a local company that does. When possible it is probably best to buy locally. If questions arise a representative will be close at hand to answer the questions and explain the coverage.

What If My Local Insurance Company Does Not Sell the Plan I Want?

All states do not sell all the federally approved Medical Supplemental Insurance plans. As long as each state sells Plan A and Plan B the state can then determine which of the other plans it will make available. In some cases an individual may have seen a plan advertised on television that is not available in his state. A wise consumer will ask which plans are available in his state and find a private insurer within the state that sells the plan he wants.
