Medicare Part D, the Medicare drug plan, requires that those who enroll pay a monthly premium. As with many insurance premiums there are several options for paying the monthly drug plan premiums.
What is the Most Common Option for Paying for My Medicare Drug Plan Premium?
Perhaps the easiest and the most common option for paying premiums for Medicare Part D is to have the premium deducted from the individual’s Social Security benefit payment. With this option the premium is automatically taken from the Social Security check before it is send to the recipient or deposited into his account. One thing that should be noted concerning this option is that most companies who deduct premiums from an individual’s Social Security check deduct three months of premiums at one time. In other words, the individual will see the premiums deducted four times a year.
Are There Other Options for Paying for My Medicare Drug Plan?
In fact, there are other options for paying the premiums for the Medicare drug plan. One option is to have the premiums deducted monthly from the individual’s checking or savings account. Another option is to have the premiums charged to a credit card or debit card. While these may be convenient for some individuals, there are others who do not want the company providing the Medicare drug plan having access to personal accounts.
Is There Another Option for Those Who Do Not Collect Social Security Benefits or Do Not Want to Give Personal Account Information?
There is one last option for paying the premiums for the Medicare drug plan. That option is to be billed each month for the premiums. With this option the individual will receive a monthly statement or bill. He will then take or mail the premium to the company providing the drug plan.
