Medicare Part C & D Replaces Original Medicare

Medicare Part C is also known as the Medicare Advantage Plan. This is a private plan that replaces both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B( Original Medicare). As with any private insurance, coverage can vary depending on your insurance provider so shop around and compare benefits. In general out of pocket cost is less and provides better coverage. Cost saving is the biggest advantage to a Medicare Part C plan.

Disadvantages to Medicare Part C & D (Medicare Advantage Plans)

There are disadvantages to Medicare Part C plans. The main disadvantages include:

1. Most plans limit what doctors you can see.
2. The coverage may or may not pay for specialist.
3. Most Medicare Part C plans only cover care given in the individual’s primary region. If you travel or live in various areas during the year, you may be responsible for any emergency care needed outside your home area.
4. You may be dropped from your Medicare Part C coverage if your insurance provider no longer operates in your area because their profit margin drops. You would then need to find other coverage options.

Medicare Part Does Not Cover All Drugs or Drug Costs

Medicare Part D covers prescription drug plans. If you decide on Medicare Part C, you must enroll in the Medicare part D plan offered by that insurance provider. Individuals under Medicare Part A or B will need to enroll under a private Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). Be aware that some prescription cost may not be covered.

Taking control of your health care options is up to you. Medicare plan options may not provide the best coverage. Only you can decide which options are right for you.
