For example, an individual may have heard of Medicare+ Choice but can no longer find a Medicare Part or plan with that name. Does Medicare+ Choice still exist?
What is Medicare+ Choice?
If an individual is looking for Medicare+ Choice he may have a hard time finding it. Today Medicare+ Choice is called Medicare Advantage. Simply put Medicare+ Choice no longer exists. Today the same plans are available under the Medicare Advantage name.
What Does the Medicare Advantage Plan (formerly Medicare+ Choice) cover?
Medicare Advantage is Medicare Part C. Medicare Advantage by law must cover everything Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B would cover. An individual may elect to pay a premium for Medicare Advantage to get everything he would get under Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B with a few extra benefits.
What Are Some of the Extra Benefits of Medicare Advantage (formerly Medicare+ Choice)?
Most of the Medicare Advantage plans include some prescription drug coverage in addition to the other benefits. Some Medicare Advantage plans pay for extra days in the hospital if the individual is hospitalized beyond the 90 day limit per occurrence that Medicare Part A pays.
Is Medicare Advantage (Medicare+ Choice) Available In My Area?
Medicare Advantage is available in all areas. Because the Medicare Advantage plans are sold by private insurers the premiums may be different from area to area and among insurers. Additionally, the benefits may vary among plans as well as from region to region.
