There are some services that Medicare just will not pay for. In the case that a person needs one of these services, Medicare has furnished a form to allow providers to inform their patients that such a service is excluded from benefits. Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Non-Coverage.

Recently the name of the documentation has recently been changed to read Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Non-Coverage. This provides a clearer statement of the intention of the form.

What providers must use this form?

Included in the list of providers that will be able to use the Advanced Beneficiary Notice for Medicare form are, doctors, outpatient hospitals, practitioners and suppliers. Also able to use the form are hospice providers, as well as religious institutions that are also paid under Part A.

Retaining documentation of the notice.

This form must be review with the beneficiary and a signed copy kept on file with the provider. As you might understand, this is a critical part of the overall process of the Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Non-Coverage.
