Medicare is divided into many parts and plans. While this seems to be a very confusing way to provide coverage, it is the way the system currently works. Each part of the plan, designated by letters, covers a different type of service for the person carrying coverage. Medicare Part D is for prescription coverage. If you do not carry Part D you will be responsible for the cost of all your medication, regardless. This is a very crucial plan to have if you are on any type of maintenance drug or have a history of being ill. Medication is by far the largest expense a senior citizen can encounter. Medicare Part D is the only plan that covers your medicine.

Are My Medications Covered During A Medical Procedure By Other Plans?

If you are required to receive medication due to a surgical procedure or other type of medical act you will need coverage to pay for the medicine. Medicine used in the performance of the procedure is covered under the procedure plan, medications, such as antibiotics, for afterwards will need to be covered by your Medicare Part D plan. It is very important to discuss this with your medical provider so that you are not left with a large bill after the procedure.
