What Are The Benefits Of Medicare Part D?
With all the Medicare Parts it is easy to become confused. Medicare Part A covers hospitalization. Medicare Part B covers visits to the doctor. What is the benefit of Medicare Part D?
Most senior citizens are more concerned with the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs than with the cost of a hospital stay or the cost of a doctor’s visit. A hospital stay is most often an occasional or rare occurrence. Most visits to the doctor’s office is a manageable cost. However, prescription drug costs have seen a tremendous rise over the past decade. Medicare Part D provides coverage to help offset the costs of prescription medications.
What Are The Benefits Of Medicare Part D?
Medicare Part D allows the beneficiary to control a portion of the cost of prescription medications. Most Medicare Part D plans have a set deductible for the year and a set co-pay regardless of the cost of the prescription drugs. For example an individual may have to pay a deductible each year. However, once the deductible has been met he may only have to pay $3.00 per prescription regardless of the cost of that prescription.
Will Medicare Part D Save Money?
Depending on an individual’s prescriptions one of the benefits of Medicare Part D is that he will receive his prescriptions at a discount and will only pay a small co-pay for each prescription. As in the previous example if he has a prescription that costs $15.00 a month, he will have a co-pay of $3.00. If his prescription costs $ 200.00 per month he will still only have to pay $3.00.
Are There Other Benefits Of Medicare Part D?
Another benefit of Medicare Part D is that the individual can change his plan each year. If an individual’s prescriptions change over time he will have the opportunity each year to review all the Medicare Part D plans available in his region and select the one that will best serve him for the upcoming year.
