How Much Does Medicare Part D Cost?

An individual has Medicare Part A and has enrolled in Medicare Part B and is paying that premium. He needs prescription coverage (Medicare Part D) but he needs to know how much does Medicare Part D cost?

Medicare Part A is the basic Medicare coverage for inpatient hospital care that is the standard basic plan for all Medicare recipients. Medicare Part B covers outpatient visits to the doctor’s office. With those two plans in place prescription drug coverage is left without benefits. The individual considers purchasing Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage to help offset the monthly cost of his drugs but he knows he will have to pay the premium.

How Much Does Medicare Part D Cost?

Medicare Part D prescription coverage varies from state to state and region to region because the Medicare Part D policies are sold by private insurers which have contracted with the Federal government to provide prescription coverage. Additionally, each state has several policies that fall under the umbrella of Medicare Part D for prescription coverage. The cost of Medicare Part D policy will depend on where a person lives and which plan he chooses. On average the premiums are between Thirty Dollars ($30.00) and Thirty-five Dollars ($35.00) per month. The individual premiums may be higher or lower depending on the region of the country and the state in which he lives.

Is the Premium All The Medicare Part D Cost?

Some plans have no deductible. However, the average deductible of $295.00 (Two Hundred Ninety-five Dollars) should be taken into consideration as a part of the Medicare Part D cost if the individual has prescriptions for medications. The deductible, if the policy has a deductible, will have to be paid before Medicare Part D will pay anything. For that reason, in addition to the monthly premiums the amount of the deductible should be included with calculating the Medicare Part D cost.
