Medicare is federal social security program created to help all adults 65 and over to pay medical bills. Physicians and certain medical services like home health care services for the elderly are paid by Medicare part B. It requires a monthly premium and deductible. Can one switch from Medicare part B to Medicaid easily in order to get better benefits and reduced or no premium payments?

Medicaid provides medical services to poor people. It has limits on income and other financial matters like money in bank and having own house. States distribute federal funds for it. Different states have different income limits. So answer to the question: can one switch from Medicare part B to Medicaid easily, depends on one’s income in the state one lives in. If one is eligible, one could apply for Medicaid.

Is applying Medicaid easy?

Medicaid applications are taken by welfare or local social services office, called something like Mass Health in Massachusetts, the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) in Florida and Medi-Cal in California etc. If a person is eligible, procedure may be as easy as filling certain forms and waiting for acceptance. Can one switch from Medicare part B to Medicaid easily by applying Medicaid?

Once a person has been given Medicare, it becomes one’s primary medical insurance. When applied and approved for Medicaid, it pays for what Medicare is not paying. All bills would be split between Medicare and Medicaid. First Medicare pays for what one is eligible under Medicare. Then Medicaid pays rest according to state approved benefits.
