Are Medicare Supplement Plans The Best Solution For Everyone?

Medicare Supplement Plans, or Medigap plans, are used in addition to Original Medicare to help pay for the costs of medical services. They are called Medigap plans because they cover the “gap” between what Original Medicare covers and what the consumer is required to pay. Insurance companies can only offer consumers a standardized plan; this makes it easier to compare plan offers between different companies.

Medicare Supplement Plan Requirements: Do you have what it takes?

There are certain requirements a consumer must have before signing up for Medicare supplement plans.
The consumer must have both Medicare Parts A and B. Consumers must pay the private insurance premium for the Medicare supplement plans in addition to any premiums paid for Medicare. Medigap policies are guaranteed renewable. This means that so long as the premium is being paid, the insurance company cannot cancel the supplemental coverage, even if there are health issues. Also, there are some things that will disqualify a consumer from being eligible to purchase a Medigap plan. These include (but are not limited to) having employer or union health coverage, Medicare Parts C or D, Medicaid, TRICARE, or long-term health insurance plans.

Will it Work for You?

To decide if one of the Medicare supplement plans will help a consumer, all health care expenses and costs must be considered. If they find that they are short every month, despite the Medicare coverage, then a Medigap policy is something to consider. Keep in mind, though, that the Medigap premium must be paid every month, whether or not the coverage is used. The idea of Medigap is to save people money on their medical expenses. It may take a little bit of research to find the right fit, but having that extra help each month will be worth it.

  1. when and at what point the insurance company is working for THEMSELVES, they have the upper hand on you. I say this from experience of seeing and witnessing how and what they have done for years that I have been in the business.
