Many citizens, both men and women, have not worked sufficient hours to qualify for Social Security benefits. However, those people still qualify for Medicare benefits upon reaching the age of 65. Those persons automatically qualify for Medicare Part A and Part B.

Will I Have to Pay Medicare Premiums If I Do Not Qualify for Social Security?

A person is required to pay a part of the premiums for those benefits unless his or her spouse has worked sufficient hours to qualify for Social Security benefits. Providing the qualifying spouse has reached the age of 65 no premiums will be required. Should the spouse who does not qualify for Social Security reach the age of 65 first, he will be required to pay premiums until the qualifying spouse reaches the age of 65 and is eligible for Medicare coverage.
