Many of us are already aware of the fact that Medicaid health program is designed for those American citizens who fall into particular categories defined by the Medicaid. Usually, people use the term Medicaid and Medicare interchangeably. These are two different programs with separate eligibility criteria and benefits. However, both of these health care programs are being run by Medicare and Medicaid Services Center in the US. In order to avail Medicaid, you need to fill out a few forms and show proofs of your earning along with medical certificates. Just like other state laws and regulations, Medicaid laws vary from state to state.
Different Services Provided By Medicaid
Each states holds the power to decide of the amount, kind and length of Medicaid services provided to its citizens. However, the federal government has set some benchmarks that have to be observed in all the states in order to qualify for federal matching funds issued by the federal government. Services deemed mandatory by the federal government are inpatient and outpatient hospital services, children vaccination, nursing services for patients 21 years of age and older, midwife care, rural clinics and health services, family planning provisions and services, x-ray and laboratory services, physician services, health care at home for individuals entitled to nursing care, periodic screening and diagnostic treatment for kids up to 21 years of age and nurse practitioners and family pediatric services.
Medicaid At State Level
Year 2001 has brought a lot of financial difficulties to different states of America. These problems are still persistent with varying degrees. During the last three years, many states have been aiming at growing Medicaid spending by cutting down their expenses and keeping their budgets under control. Drastic measures have been taken and 49 states have employed Medicaid cost containment. Although a temporary rise in FMAP is observed, 18 other states followed with half-year cost containment policies or cuts. Such measures snatch away the few chances of healthcare for the poverty stricken citizens.
