Many States have an online application that allows home bound person’s to apply directly over the Internet, which is very convenient. If you or the person you are applying for have these services in your home it can be a very good way to apply for Medicaid benefits without leaving home. Any paper work that you will be required to provide for eligibility determination can be sent through regular mail. It is not advisable to send original copies of items such as birth certificates, etc.

How do I apply for Medicaid if I am homebound but do not own a computer or am unfamiliar with using the Internet?

Nearly every Medicaid office has a toll free number that can be called from your home phone. In this way you will be able to speak to a representative in person who will help you know what you need to do to apply for benefits. Often times a representative will collect most of the information over the phone, but there may be a few papers you will have to send in the mail for them to verify your eligibility.

What if I don’t have a phone and cannot get to a Medicaid office in person?

If you are in this situation you can always speak with your family physician or nurse. They can alert the Medicaid office of your situation, who will then set up an appointment for a representative to come to your home in person to receive your application.
