It may be possible that you would need to sign a lien on your home if you went into a convalescent home, but there are some restrictions on when that could be required.

There can be no lien placed on your home if for some reason you are placed in a long term care facility and you are on Medicaid if your spouse is still living in the home.

If you have a child living in your home that is under the age of 21, or if your adult child living in your home is blind or disabled, or if your sister or brother is living in your home and is part owner in the home, and has been living there for one year or more prior to you going into a convalescent home.

If you recover enough to return home the lien will have to be removed and the home returned to you.

You can appeal the states decision to place a lien on your property if you believe they are in error by doing so.
